About the Military Order and Its Membership
The Military Order is a patriotic nonpartisan organization, which holds that it is “nobler to serve than to be served.” The Order was established in 1919 to promote the welfare of our Nation. Because it clearly is not a self-seeking organization, the Order is widely respected and listened to, throughout all branches of the Government and across the Country.
The Order provides an opportunity for Officers of all of the Federal Uniformed Services to unite in a strong program to promote National Security, Patriotism, Good Citizenship and Service to Country.
The Order is comprised of over 120 Chapters across the nation. In acknowledgment of the local Chapter as the focal point for the work of the Order, the role of the elected staff and National Headquarters is one of support to the Chapters. The Chapters hold regular meetings to hear important speakers on all issues, especially National Security and to plan and implement programs in support of the Order’s Preamble.
Support for National Security
The Order sponsors ongoing programs by which you can help the Nation maintain a strong military posture. Over the years, our consistent, effective support has helped with significant legislative, personnel, and hardware improvements in our Nation’s National Security position.
Youth Leadership and Patriotic Education Programs
You can help promote much-needed patriotic education in our Nation's schools through the Order's patriotic education programs and by supporting the Order’s Youth Leadership Conferences (YLCs). Thousands of citizens each year participate in programs sponsored directly and supported by the Order, including multi-day and single day youth leadership conferences. In 2007 MOWW achieved 28 multi-day conferences for approximately 1700 students and 60 single-day conferences for approximately 7500 students. In addition, the Order provides books and materials for students to learn about the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and our Flag. Outstanding future leaders get an education that helps to keep alive our National heritage and free enterprise systems.
Reserve Officer Training Corps Support (ROTC)
America
will always need qualified military leaders -- regardless of the ebb and flow of military sentiment. You can play a part in developing this leadership through the Order's active programs which support the Military Academies and both the Junior and Senior ROTC programs.
These programs help make students and the public aware of the advantages of military education, as well as recognize more than 2000 Senior ROTC and 5000 Junior ROTC outstanding cadets’ students each year. The Order also directly contributes to programs established to provide training and education for "Youth at Risk". Support is provided during the school year and during summer programs. Awards are presented to outstanding cadets at annual ceremonies by Chapter members.
